My love for creating beautiful homes began with my mother. Wherever we lived, she had a remarkable ability to take what we already had—familiar furnishings, something discovered at a Saturday morning garage sale, or simply a little creativity—and create a home that felt pretty, comfortable and welcoming. Long before I knew the language of interior design, she was teaching me something I would carry throughout my life: beauty isn't dependent upon having the largest home or the most expensive things. Sometimes it begins by simply seeing the possibilities in what is already there.

That influence quickly became a love of my own. As a little girl, I rearranged and decorated my Barbie house. Then came my life-size backyard playhouse, complete with painted exterior walls, framed walls, its own address and an interior I delighted in arranging. As a teenager, I decorated the bedroom I shared with my sister, and after I married, our first home—a renovated 12-by-60-foot mobile home—became another canvas for discovering what color, furnishings and thoughtful placement could do.

Step by step, room by room, that childhood delight continued to grow.

Living alongside a builder helped develop my eye for structure and construction, and formal interior design education followed. Over the years, opportunities to use those gifts often seemed to find me—from weddings, receptions and special events to being asked to create a large Christmas Winter Wonderland celebration for the Partner Service Representative Department at the Christian Broadcasting Network. Professional opportunities in color, furnishings, visual presentation, model homes, home staging, decorating and real estate continued to broaden my experience.

I hadn't gone looking for many of those opportunities. One door simply seemed to open into another. Looking back, I see them as divine appointments—opportunities God provided for me to discover, develop and share the gifts He had given me.

And some of those gifts had been part of my life even longer. I had been singing on stages since I was five years old, and speaking later became another important part of my journey. Yet writing had remained on my heart for years, and the design business I had considered more than once had never fully taken shape.

Then, in this season of my life, after months of sincerely asking God what He would have me do with the gifts, experience and years He had given me, an answer settled clearly into my heart:

Write. Work. Now use the other gifts I have given you.

I understood that this wasn't about leaving the gifts of earlier seasons behind. It was about bringing them together while finally stepping into those I had not yet fully used.

Stage Right Interiors™ did not begin in a single moment. It had been taking shape throughout my life.

Even the name seems fitting. I have spent much of my life on stages through music and speaking. Now, in this stage of my life, I am stepping onto another kind of stage—as an interior designer, business owner and writer.

Today, that lifetime of experience shapes the way Stage Right Interiors™ serves our clients—and it is at the heart of what I call Livable Luxury™. I learned from my mother that living beautifully isn't dependent upon wealth, square footage, or having everything new. Luxury can be found in a home that is comfortable, welcoming and thoughtfully created around the people who live there. It can mean recognizing the beauty and value in what you already have, adding what is needed with purpose, and creating surroundings that allow you to live graciously and well. That is Livable Luxury™—a beautiful home designed not merely to be admired, but to be lived in and enjoyed.
